EKO HOT BLOG reports that the 55 year old music mogul convicted in May on two prostitution related charges appeared visibly shaken as he broke down in tears burying his head in his hands during the proceedings. His mother Janice Combs and six of his seven children filled the courtroom in a show of solidarity with several of his children delivering emotional statements about their father.
“He is completely transformed” his son Quincy Brown told the court. “Our father will never ever do anything to jeopardize his freedom.” Combs wept openly as his children described their “unconditional love” for him.
Combs’ defense attorney Nicole Westmoreland also grew emotional as she highlighted his contributions to the Black community recalling how his decision to launch Bad Boy Records as a young Black entrepreneur was initially seen as “almost jokeable.”
Despite these appeals Judge Arun Subramanian said there was “no basis for departure from sentencing guidelines” stressing that he would impose a punishment “sufficient but not greater than” the advisory range of 70 to 87 months roughly five to seven years.
The judge also denied Combs any credit for “acceptance of responsibility”t noting that he had “denied the facts of guilt” and failed to show remorse during trial.
While prosecutors are pushing for at least 11 years and three months Combs’ legal team argued he should serve no more than 14 months a term that counting time already served could see him released before Christmas.
In a personal letter submitted to the court Combs pleaded for mercy writing: “I no longer care about the money or the fame. There is nothing more important to me than my family.”
Court filings also revealed that the hip hop mogul had already booked speaking engagements in Miami where he planned to address underserved communities on self improvement and rehabilitation.
Combs was acquitted in July of the most serious allegations against him, and now will serve 50 months (above 4 years) behind bars.
