The Central Bank of Nigeria’s official exchange rate data shows that the NFEM rate is derived from the volume weighted average and represents the official exchange rate for the day.
In the parallel market, available data for August 21 showed the dollar being bought at around ₦1,408 and sold at approximately ₦1,418, putting the average rate at about ₦1,413 per dollar.
The latest rates indicate that a person selling $100 in the parallel market could receive about ₦140,800, while purchasing $100 could cost approximately ₦141,800, depending on the dealer and location.
The naira’s recent performance comes amid improved dollar liquidity and stronger foreign exchange inflows. Reuters reported on Thursday that the naira was trading around ₦1,345 per dollar in the official market, while street rates were around ₦1,410.

Exchange rates can change throughout the day because of movements in dollar supply and demand, banking transactions and activity in the parallel market. The rates quoted above should therefore be treated as indicative rather than fixed prices.
