According to the agency, the accident involved an empty articulated truck that reportedly lost balance while in motion before overturning on the roadway.
The driver was trapped beneath the fallen vehicle and died instantly from the impact of the crash, while the motor boy survived with multiple injuries and fractures.
“The unfortunate incident resulted in the immediate death of the driver, who became trapped beneath the overturned truck and succumbed instantly to the impact of the crash.
The motor boy accompanying the deceased, however, survived the accident with multiple injuries and fractures and was promptly rescued and evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent medical attention,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck was not carrying any cargo at the time of the accident before it suddenly lost stability and overturned.
LASTMA said its Rescue and Recovery Unit was immediately deployed to the scene, where operatives successfully recovered the body of the deceased driver and rescued the injured motor boy for medical treatment.
Traffic officers also secured the accident scene and managed vehicular movement to prevent secondary crashes and minimise disruptions along the route.

The agency noted that officers from the Isheri-Osun Police Division provided security support throughout the rescue and recovery operation.
To restore free flow of traffic, a heavy-duty crane and a flatbed recovery truck were deployed to remove the overturned vehicle from the road.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Bakare-Oki Olalekan, expressed sadness over the driver’s death and extended condolences to his family, while wishing the injured motor boy a speedy recovery.
He also stressed the importance of routine maintenance and safety inspections for heavy-duty vehicles operating on Lagos roads.
According to him, critical components such as braking systems, steering mechanisms, tyres, suspension systems and other mechanical parts should undergo regular professional checks to prevent avoidable accidents.
Bakare-Oki further urged truck owners, transport operators and drivers to ensure their vehicles remain roadworthy and comply with all safety regulations, warning that mechanical failures continue to pose significant risks to lives and property.
