Eko hot blog reports that after a tense standoff lasting several hours, a hostage situation at a Dutch nightclub in the eastern Netherlands concluded peacefully with the apprehension of the suspect.
The individual, donning a balaclava mask, surrendered to law enforcement authorities upon exiting the building.
According to a police statement, “The last hostage has just been released, One person has been arrested,” while refraining from disclosing further details at the moment.
Early on Saturday morning, several individuals, including employees, were held captive at Cafe Petticoat in the town of Ede.
The motive behind the incident remains unclear.
During a news briefing, officials revealed that the suspect, previously known to law enforcement, had wielded knives to threaten the hostages.
However, authorities emphasized that there were no indications of a terrorist motive.
Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect emerged from the Dutch Nightclub, raised his hands behind his head, and knelt down before being handcuffed by the police.
The tense situation prompted the deployment of police explosives units to the town center building.
As a precautionary measure, streets in the vicinity were evacuated, and train services to the town, located approximately 80 km (50 miles) from Amsterdam, were temporarily suspended.
