The Philadelphia Eagles delivered a dominant 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Sunday, ending their opponents’ quest for an unprecedented third consecutive NFL title in a game watched by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts spearheaded the Eagles’ triumph at the New Orleans Superdome, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another as Philadelphia avenged their heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs two years ago.
“I’ve learned from every experience—good and bad—to chase greatness,” Hurts said. “But none of this would be possible without the guys around me. We had a special group this year, added some key pieces, and finally got over that hump.”
Kansas City entered the contest aiming to become the first team to win three straight Vince Lombardi trophies, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes struggled against an impenetrable Eagles defense. Mahomes was sacked six times and threw two interceptions, unable to spark a comeback.
“Credit to the Eagles—they outplayed us from start to finish,” Mahomes admitted. “The turnovers cost us, and that’s on me. I didn’t play to my standard, and I have to be better.”
Philadelphia took control early, surging to a 24-0 halftime lead with touchdowns from Hurts, Cooper DeJean, and A.J. Brown. The Eagles stretched their advantage to 34-0 late in the third quarter before the Chiefs salvaged three late touchdowns. Kicker Jake Elliott sealed the win with four field goals.
