Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has reassured Nigerians abroad that there is no age restriction in accessing the federal government’s diaspora mortgage scheme, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Speaking during a lively question-and-answer session at the 2025 Eko Club International Convention, Dabiri-Erewa explained that the scheme only requires consistency of contribution for a minimum of six months to demonstrate eligibility.

“There is no age limit. What is required is that you contribute, either $100 or $200, for six months to show that your wages are consistent. Once you meet that requirement, you qualify for the loan. We’ll also make sure the details are made available on our website and other media platforms,” she stated.
Addressing another question on the possibility of creating exclusive diaspora communities with modern amenities and guaranteed electricity, Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that initiatives are already in progress both in Lagos and Abuja.

She revealed that the Federal Capital Territory has allocated 10 hectares of land for a “Diaspora City” project, while Lagos State, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has equally taken significant steps to integrate diaspora-focused housing schemes.
“The governor has approved a location, and there is a structured process where you can apply and get your allocation without third parties or hidden charges,” she noted, adding that the Lagos Diaspora Villas in Badagry is one of such projects designed to welcome Nigerians abroad back home.
In a moment of applause and excitement, Dabiri-Erewa praised Governor Sanwo-Olu as the “most diaspora-centric governor in the world,” highlighting his initiatives such as the provision of 50 housing units for Eko Club members and the establishment of a dedicated Lagos State Diaspora Real Estate Desk to cater to overseas Nigerians.
“You now have no excuses not to own a home in Lagos. We expect every diaspora Lagosian to invest, contribute, and be part of the state’s growth story,” she concluded.
The remarks drew loud cheers and a standing ovation from participants, underscoring the convention’s theme of fostering stronger ties between Lagos, Nigeria, and its global diaspora community.
