Spokesperson of the command, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed in a statement that the rescue followed the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, who ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, intelligence resources and aerial surveillance to the affected area.
“The sustained rescue efforts, coordinated bush combing operations, and strategic domination of the area exerted pressure on the kidnappers ultimately leading to the safe rescue of all victims,” she said.
The victims were said to have received medical attention and have since been reunited with their families.
The incident had earlier generated concern after reports emerged that passengers were abducted along the busy highway, with one relative of a victim appealing for public support to raise a ransom.
In a related development, the police also rescued four other kidnap victims who had been held in captivity in the Imiegba forest in Agenebode earlier in the month.

“In a related development, the command also successfully rescued four other kidnap victims… making a total of nine victims rescued,” Ikoedem added.
The police assured residents that security along the expressway and surrounding communities has been strengthened, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible.
