According to Vitalis Ortese, the Managing Director of the OOPL the EFCC’s actions were “unlawful” and a “direct assault” on the integrity and sanctity of the institution. He stated that the raid violated the property rights of the library and the personal rights of those attending an event there.
The library is demanding a thorough investigation, a public apology published in major newspapers, and restitution for those arrested and injured.

The compensation claim includes N1 billion for the injuries of at least 100 people and an additional N2.5 billion for damage to the library’s reputation and business, as well as that of its founder, Olusegun Obasanjo.

He also voiced a deeper concern, stating that such aggressive operations create an atmosphere of fear among young people, sending a negative message about the value of creativity and enterprise.
The OOPL has given the EFCC an ultimatum of seven days to meet these demands, threatening to pursue legal redress if no action is taken.
