Multiple security sources confirmed that both the EFCC and NFIU are conducting forensic analyses of the accounts belonging to soldiers and civilians allegedly involved.
The probe aims to examine deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and patterns of suspicious activity while identifying the true owners and origin of the funds. The investigation has also extended to associates and business partners of the primary suspects.

The probe follows revelations of a purported N45 billion transfer from the Niger Delta Development Commission to the alleged plotters.
Earlier reports indicated that 16 Nigerian Army officers were arrested over plans to overthrow President Bola Tinubu, reportedly linked to the cancellation of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.
The Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, however, denied any connection between the detentions and a coup attempt.
Security operatives also raided the Abuja residence of former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva, detaining his younger brother and driver, while Sylva and his wife were abroad. Sylva’s spokesperson denied his involvement, accusing political rivals of attempting to implicate him.

According to insiders, the investigation relies on EFCC and NFIU intelligence to uncover the financial networks supporting the alleged plot. Names of the 16 officers have surfaced, including a brigadier general, a colonel, four lieutenant colonels, five majors, two captains, a lieutenant, a Navy lieutenant commander, and an Air Force squadron leader.
