EKO HOT BLOG reports that a viral video circulating online shows the deceased officer’s body surrounded by onlookers as police coordinated a search of his bag. A voice in the video confirmed, “He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him.”

Speaking on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the incident, noting that the death is under investigation. “Yes, the man is our officer. His death is being investigated. The incident happened on Sunday,” Oyewale stated.

This marks another tragedy for the EFCC in recent weeks. On January 15, Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu, an EFCC operative, was shot during a raid in Onitsha, Anambra State, by a suspected cybercriminal. Salisu and other operatives from the EFCC’s Enugu zonal headquarters had been on a mission to arrest a group of suspected fraudsters when they were ambushed.
