EKO HOT BLOG reports that sources within the commission confirmed that the probe includes plans to write to the Swiss school where Ahmed’s children are reportedly enrolled, as investigators seek to verify claims contained in the petition.
Dangote had, in December 2025, petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, alleging that Ahmed spent about $7m on the secondary education of his children in Switzerland. In the petition, the businessman accused the former NMDPRA boss of abusing his office in violation of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, alleging that the funds were unlawfully sourced from public resources.
Although the ICPC acknowledged receipt of the petition, it said it would continue investigations in line with Sections 3(14) and 27(3) of its enabling Act. Dangote later withdrew the petition through a letter dated January 5, 2026, but subsequently submitted a fresh petition to the EFCC on July 6, through his legal representative.
Confirming developments, a senior EFCC official said the commission had begun preliminary investigations but had not invited Ahmed.
“The commission has started by writing to parties and institutions mentioned in the petition to obtain information needed for the investigation,” the source said.
The official added, “We have prepared the ground and have started working on it. We have not invited the accused. We are writing to all the parties mentioned in the petition. Whoever is indicted is always the last to be invited.”
Another source disclosed, “We will have to confirm some claims in the petition; and this may lead to writing the Switzerland school mentioned in it.”
The EFCC noted that similar steps were taken in past cases, including investigations involving alleged payment of school fees with public funds.
