Ekiti Arrests 9 Child Traders
Ekiti State Government has apprehended nine children of school age at the Okesa and Bisi markets in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that while some were running errands, others were found trading during school hours.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Alhaja Maryam Ogunlade, described sending children on errands or keeping them in markets during school hours as a gross violation of their rights and contrary to the laws of Ekiti State, saying erring parents and guardians would be prosecuted.

A statement by the ministry, titled, ‘Ekiti apprehends nine children for loitering during school hours’ made available in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, stated that Ogunlade spoke on Tuesday while releasing the children to their parents and guardians after they signed undertakings that the children would thenceforth attend school regularly.
The commissioner said, “Making the children run errands and keeping them in markets while they should be in school is contrary to the law of the land.”
