- Give the prosecution one final opportunity to present its case
- No lawyer representing the prosecution showed up for a scheduled hearing
- No formal request, the court should end the case
Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has urged the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court to discontinue his ongoing trial for alleged procurement fraud.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that his lawyer, Matthew Burkaa (SAN), made the request after no lawyer representing the prosecution showed up for a scheduled hearing yesterday.

Burkaa told the court that he and Emefiele had traveled from Lagos for the hearing, only to find the courtroom empty of any prosecuting lawyers.

He also objected to a request for an adjournment that came from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), pointing out that the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) filed the original charge, not the EFCC.
The lawyer argued that since the AGF’s office made no formal request, the court should end the case. After hearing the defense’s arguments, Justice Hamza Muazu elected to give the prosecution one final opportunity to present its case.
The judge warned that if the prosecution fails to appear on the next adjourned dates, October 22 and 23, the court will take the necessary action.
