The Federal Ministry of Environment has issued a warning that several parts of 16 states may experience heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding between October 4 and October 8, 2025.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the National Flood Early Warning Centre, through its Director Usman Bokani, issued an alert indicating 39 locations across 16 states may face flooding between October 4 and 8, 2025.
According to the prediction, the states include Delta (Asaba), Yobe (Damaturu), Sokoto (Isa), Zamfara (Anka, Bungudu, Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi), Katsina (Jibia), Oyo (Kisi, Oyo), Kebbi (Ribah, Sakaba, Yelwa), Kano (Gwarzo, Sumaila, Karaye), and Niger (Kontagora, Mashegu, Mokwa, New Bussa, Rijau, Wushishi).
Others are Kwara (Kosubosu), Benue (Agaku, Buruku, Gboko, Katsina Ala, Ugba), Borno (Briyel), Bayelsa (Brass, Ikpidiama, Odoni), Cross River (Edor, Ikom), Rivers (Itu, Ahoada), and Enugu (Nsukka).
The ministry advised state governments, local authorities, and emergency agencies to take proactive measures to reduce the possible impact of flooding and safeguard lives and property.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency, as of September 20, no fewer than 232 people had died, while 121,224 others were displaced by floods across the country.
The 2025 flood dashboard also shows that 339,658 people have been affected so far, with 681 sustaining injuries of varying degrees.
