Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement was made during a press conference held by the executive members of the club, where the President of Epe Club, Chief Olayemi Dada, described the occasion as the first of its kind in the history of the club.
According to him, the event is designed to celebrate Alhaji Bamu as an icon, a leader, and a father whose impact has shaped generations across Epe Division.
“This event is designed to celebrate an icon, a leader and a club elder, Alhaji Seriki Akanni Bamu,” Chief Dada said. “It is the first of its kind, but it is going to be a grand and memorable one.”
Chief Dada disclosed that the ceremony will take place at Legendacy Hall, around Alausa, Ikeja, and will provide a rare opportunity for people mentored by Alhaji Bamu to publicly share their experiences and testify to his influence, while he watches and celebrates with them.
“We want him to sit, watch, and listen to people he has mentored speak about how he has impacted their lives,” he said. “It will be a day to celebrate, dance, dine and wine with Baba while he is still alive.”
He explained that Epe Club is a socio-cultural organisation that represents the entire Epe Division, cutting across five zones: Ibeju-Lekki, Ikosi-Ejinrin, Eredo, Lekki and Epe Central.
He noted that the club is made up exclusively of indigenes of Epe Division who have distinguished themselves in various fields.
“Epe Club is the premier club in Epe Division,” Chief Dada stated.
“Every Governor of Lagos State is a Grand Patron of the club, the serving Deputy Governor is a member, past and present members of the House of Representatives and House of Assembly are members, as well as Local Government and LCDA chairmen, successful businessmen, Permanent Secretaries, senior civil servants and academics.”
Tracing the history of the club, the president revealed that Epe Club was founded in 1974 by about nine young men and has grown into a formidable socio-cultural force with over two acres of land dedicated to its facilities.
Highlighting the club’s contributions to development, Chief Dada listed bursary awards for indigent students in tertiary institutions, medical donations to primary healthcare centres, care for the aged, interventions in communal issues, and support for recruitment opportunities within Epe Division.
“In the past, the club has awarded bursaries to students who have gone on to make us proud,” he said.
“We have also reached out to primary healthcare centres across Epe Division with medical donations and supported the aged and vulnerable.”
He added that all monarchs in Epe Division are patrons of the club, with the Oloja of Epe Land serving as the Life Patron, a relationship that strengthens the club’s ability to intervene in community matters.
Looking ahead, Chief Dada outlined ambitious plans for youth development, including recreational and vocational facilities.
“Our future plans are focused on the youth,” he said.
“We are planning facilities such as a swimming pool, table tennis, basketball court and other indoor games, as well as vocational schools and youth reorientation programmes across the local governments.”
The president further disclosed that, in addition to honouring Alhaji Bamu, past elders of the club will also be immortalised during the event.
The ceremony is expected to attract high-profile dignitaries from across the country, including the Minister of Education, prominent traditional rulers from Oyo State, the Oloja of Epe Land, and possibly the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Speaking on the decision, the Vice President of the club and Asipa of Epeland, Chief Oluwo Durojaye, explained that the honour reflects Alhaji Bamu’s enduring legacy of service to the Epe community.
“Alhaji Akanni Seriki has devoted a substantial part of his life to the growth and stability of Epe division.
His leadership, guidance, and contributions have left lasting impressions across generations. As a club, we believe that acknowledging such an individual during his lifetime is both fitting and necessary.
His unwavering commitment to the collective good of our people clearly warrants this recognition.”
The press conference was attended by members of the Epe Club executive council, who reaffirmed the club’s commitment to preserving the legacy of Epe Division and celebrating those who have contributed immensely to its growth.
