The meeting, attended by top security agencies and local vigilance groups, aimed at formulating strategies to curb the destruction of essential power facilities, which has led to prolonged outages and economic hardship in the region.
Present at the meeting were representatives from the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Tactical Team, Ibile Vigilante Group, Gbalule Vigilante Group, Muwon Vigilante Group, and the Local Hunters Group.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Surah Animashaun condemned the criminal activities of vandals, stressing the economic consequences of their actions.
She emphasized the need for swift intervention to restore security around power installations.
“We can no longer fold our arms while criminals destroy our critical infrastructure.
This is not just theft; it is economic sabotage that affects everyone. We are determined to put an end to this and bring offenders to justice,” she said.
Hon. Akinloye Monsuru highlighted the negative impact of vandalism on businesses and households, stressing that unreliable power supply disrupts daily life and stifles economic growth.
“Small businesses, artisans, and even students are suffering due to these criminal acts. If we do not stop this now, the damage will continue to worsen.
We are taking this issue seriously and will deploy all necessary resources to tackle it,” he said.
Hon. Anomo Wale Raji linked vandalism to broader security concerns, noting that power outages create an environment where crime thrives. He urged residents to be vigilant and report suspicious activities.
“Darkness encourages crime. When power supply is disrupted, it opens the door to more security challenges. That is why we must collectively work to prevent further acts of vandalism,” he said.
The Chairmen resolved to strengthen cooperation with security agencies, increase surveillance, and launch awareness campaigns to educate residents on the consequences of vandalism.
They also urged traditional rulers and community leaders to support their efforts in ensuring the protection of power installations.
In addition to law enforcement actions, the leaders appealed to parents and guardians to counsel their children against engaging in destructive activities.
