Arsenal narrowed the gap to Premier League leaders Liverpool to just six points with a 3-1 victory over Brentford on Wednesday, as Gabriel Jesus continued his red-hot form.
Mikel Arteta’s side was initially shaken by Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half goal at the Gtech Community Stadium. However, Arsenal responded resiliently, with Jesus equalizing before the break.

The Brazilian striker’s goal marked his sixth in four games, a remarkable turnaround after managing only one in his first 20 appearances this season.
After half-time, Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli struck quickly to give Arsenal a comfortable lead, pushing them into second place above Nottingham Forest.
Excluding a dominant 5-1 win over Crystal Palace, Arsenal had struggled in their previous four games with disappointing draws against Fulham and Everton, and a narrow victory over Ipswich.
However, their first Premier League match of 2025 demonstrated they are fully capable of challenging Liverpool for the title, with the Reds holding a game in hand.
Arsenal, runners-up to Manchester City in the last two seasons, are now unbeaten in 12 games across all competitions, including four consecutive wins.

With Bukayo Saka out for several months due to a hamstring injury, 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri made his first league start for the club. Despite the absence of Kai Havertz, who scored the winner against Ipswich, Jesus’ performance ensured Arsenal didn’t miss him.
Arsenal maintained their impressive London derby record, remaining unbeaten in all 10 league derbies in 2024, surviving an early setback to claim another important victory.
