Eko Hot Blog report that the spiritually uplifting programme drew Islamic scholars, community leaders, youth groups, and residents who converged to reflect on faith, morality, and the importance of righteous living during the holy month of Ramadan.
The event was coordinated by Hon. Maruf Odunayo Odunare, Senior Aide to Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, who has been instrumental in ensuring the Ramadan lecture series reaches various communities across the senatorial district.
Delivering the lecture, Alhaji Sheikh Abdulwasiu Abdulgafaru, Chief Imam of Pobo Central Mosque, Grand Chief Imam of Poka Land, and lecturer at the Religious Department of Lagos State University Epe Campus, spoke extensively on the signs of the last hour and the need for believers to prepare for life after death through righteous deeds.
He reminded the congregation that death is inevitable for every living soul and that accountability before God is certain.
“No one knows when the last hour will come, but every human being knows that one day he will die and face judgment before Allah,” he said.
The cleric also raised concerns about the moral decline among young people, particularly the increasing use of hard drugs, involvement in immoral relationships, and indecent dressing among some young women.
“Our young people must retrace their steps. Hard drugs, immoral lifestyles, and indecent dressing are destroying the moral fabric of society. Ramadan is a time for repentance and total transformation,” Sheikh Abdulgafaru added.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Lateef Adesanya, who represented the Executive Chairman, Monsuru Akinloye, expressed appreciation to Senator Abiru for sustaining the Ramadan lecture series across communities in the district.
He described the initiative as a meaningful platform for spiritual guidance and moral reawakening.
“Ramadan is a period of spiritual cleansing where every Muslim reflects on his actions, seeks forgiveness from Almighty Allah, and renews commitment to righteous living,” he stated.
The Grand Chief Imam General of Epe Division also offered prayers for Senator Abiru and for the leadership of Lagos State, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.
Special prayers were also offered for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking Almighty Allah to grant him long life, wisdom, and success as he continues to lead the nation, including the realization of a second term in office.
A youth representative and one of the aides to Senator Abiru also addressed the gathering, calling on young people to embrace love, peace, and repentance while shunning violence, drug abuse, and other social vices.
“Young people must understand that the future belongs to those who live with discipline, respect for humanity, and the fear of God,” he said.
The lecture concluded with collective prayers for peace, unity, and continued development in Eredo LCDA, Epe Division, Lagos State, and Nigeria at large.
