The Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has intensified enforcement of the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise, with its Environmental Enforcement Team impounding 78 vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles for violating the Lagos State Government’s movement restriction order.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the enforcement operation, carried out during the sanitation exercise between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., followed weeks of public sensitisation and repeated announcements reminding residents and motorists to observe the restriction.
Officials disclosed that 55 tricycles, 16 motorcycles, and seven vehicles were apprehended across various parts of the council area for flouting the directive.
The Executive Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, said the exercise demonstrates the council’s resolve to enforce environmental laws and promote a cleaner, healthier, and more orderly community.
“We have consistently informed and sensitised residents about the monthly environmental sanitation exercise and the movement restriction. Unfortunately, some individuals still chose to disregard the directive, leaving the council with no option but to enforce the law,” he said.
Akinloye stressed that environmental sanitation remains a critical component of public health and community development, adding that the council would not relent in ensuring full compliance.
“Our commitment is to create a cleaner, safer, and healthier Eredo LCDA in line with the environmental policies of the Lagos State Government. Anyone who violates the sanitation order should expect to face the consequences prescribed by law,” he added.
The Chairman urged residents, commercial transport operators, and other road users to cooperate with government directives during future sanitation exercises, noting that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
“Environmental sanitation is everyone’s responsibility. Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Eredo LCDA for present and future generations,” he stated.
