Erik ten Hag Reveals Manchester United’s Biggest Problem
Frustration mounted for Ten Hag, now in his third season at Old Trafford, after United were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Twente in their Europa League opener.
This result came on the heels of a disappointing goalless draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend.

United began brightly against Ten Hag’s former club, with Christian Eriksen giving them the lead with a powerful first-half strike. However, Twente’s Sam Lammers equalized in the 68th minute after Eriksen lost possession.
Despite registering 18 shots against Twente and 15 attempts at Selhurst Park, United’s struggle to convert chances continues. Ten Hag now hopes to reignite his side’s attacking edge in their upcoming Premier League clash with Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday.
When asked in a pre-match press conference on Thursday what United’s main issue was, the 54-year-old Dutchman responded: “Not scoring goals, not scoring enough. That’s the problem, the key area.”
“We have to score more goals as a team. I think we have players across the team who have the ability to score. That’s clear.
“You see all the opportunities we are creating, we are not scoring enough.”
United, however, did return from the international break with a 3-0 win at promoted Southampton and a 7-0 League Cup thrashing of third-tier Barnsley.
Those are among just three victories United have managed in eight matches in all competitions so far this season, with Ten Hag saying it was too early to reach a definitive judgement on his inconsistent side.
