The European Union and its partners have announced new commitments to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation, unveiling fresh funding and expanded capacity-building initiatives at a stakeholders’ meeting in Kano.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the EU confirmed an additional €45 million for the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, aimed at equipping Nigerians with advanced digital skills such as AI, cybersecurity and software development.

Speaking at the event, Inga Stefanowicz, Head of Section for Green and Digital Economy at the EU, said the digital transformation agenda must reflect national inclusivity, adding that the steering committee meetings were deliberately taken beyond Abuja to ensure regional participation.
The expanded support forms part of a broader €820 million EU digital cooperation package, with plans to increase ICT training, extend fibre-optic connectivity and strengthen the country’s digital public infrastructure by 2025.

Since its launch, the Digital Transformation Centre has trained more than 5,300 Nigerians, including women and persons with disabilities, and has supported startups, MSMEs and innovation-driven university programmes.
NITDA officials and academic representatives at the meeting highlighted progress made so far and outlined goals for the next phase, including training an additional 5,800 young people, expanding green and digital skill-building programmes and improving job-market integration through mentorship and digital vouchers.
