The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted the Federal Government and state authorities for shutting schools in response to rising kidnappings, warning that the move risks fulfilling the very aims of terrorists.
Eko Hot Blog reports that PDP spokesperson, Comrade Ini Ememobong, speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, argued that closing schools is a short-sighted reaction that deepens insecurity and undermines education.

He urged the government to fully implement the National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools, stressing the need for community-based intelligence and rapid response systems capable of preventing attacks before they occur.

Ememobong warned that school closures would worsen the already alarming education deficit in the North, where UNICEF data shows that 10.2 million children at the primary level and 8.1 million at the secondary level are out of school.
He criticised the Tinubu administration for what he described as a slow and unempathetic response to the recent mass abductions in Kebbi and Niger states.

According to him, the President’s decision to send a single minister rather than visiting victims’ families underscored the government’s insensitivity.
The PDP insisted that safeguarding lives is the foremost duty of any administration and urged the government to seek international help if it lacks the capacity to address insecurity effectively.
