EKO HOT BLOG reports that this announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the inauguration of the Committee on Improvement of Quality Examinations in Nigeria held on Thursday, January 23, in Abuja.
Dr. Alausa emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing key challenges in the education sector, ensuring standardized, fair, and quality assessments while curbing examination malpractices. He highlighted that examination malpractices are often a collaborative offense involving students, parents, teachers, school principals, and even examination supervisors.
“We’re planning that by 2027, all our exams will be computer-based. We will work so hard to ensure that that happens. We have to use technology to help our endeavour,” Alausa stated.
The committee has been tasked with tackling issues such as examination leakages, identity theft during assessments, and enhancing the supervision of exams. The minister also revealed measures to improve exam integrity, including incorporating three key identifiers on examination certificates: national identification numbers, candidates’ photographs, and birthdates.
“I’ve mandated all the registrars of our examination bodies—WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB—that by their next examinations scheduled for May, June, and July, there will be three identifiers on the certificates they issue. This will ensure almost 100 per cent certainty in identifying candidates,” he added.
Dr. Alausa also acknowledged the significant investments made in education under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly in human capital development, which will support this transition.
