The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Eko Hot Blog reports.
This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Imohiosen explained that the cancellation does not diminish the importance of the national milestone, stressing that the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s independence “with dignity and enthusiasm.”

He confirmed that all other anniversary programmes remain in place, even as the government expressed regrets over any inconvenience the cancellation may cause invited guests, the diplomatic community, and the general public.
“The Federal Government appreciates the understanding, support, and cooperation of all Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests, and urges Nigerians to support the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in making Nigeria a greater nation,” the statement read.
