According to a statement by the zoo management, the animal broke free from its enclosure during preparations for an enrichment activity involving the leopards. Nuri, who was said to be in the courtyard setting up the area, was attacked by the big cat.

Medical officials at Hadassah University Hospital-Ein Kerem confirmed that Nuri was rushed into the trauma unit with severe injuries to his upper body. Despite intensive resuscitation efforts, doctors were unable to save his life.
“The staff did everything possible, but we were eventually forced to pronounce him dead. Our team is currently offering support to the bereaved family during this difficult time,” the hospital said in a statement.
Nuri, who led the carnivores care team at the zoo, frequently shared his passion for wildlife on social media, especially his work with big cats. He had become a familiar face among both staff and visitors.

Management at the zoo expressed shock and grief over the incident. “At no point were visitors in danger, as they were protected behind reinforced glass. We are working closely with the Israel Police to investigate the circumstances that led to this tragic event,” the zoo management said.
The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo, located in the southwestern part of the city, spans over 60 acres.
