Arsenal have been charged by the Football Association (FA) after players confronted referee Michael Oliver following Myles Lewis-Skelly’s controversial red card in their 1-0 victory against Wolves.

The 18-year-old midfielder was shown a straight red card in the first half for a foul on Matt Doherty, with Oliver deeming it serious foul play.

The Gunners appealed the decision, and the teenager’s three-match ban was overturned earlier this week.

Arsenal now have until 3 February to respond to the FA charge, which accuses the club of failing to ensure their players did not behave improperly.

The FA’s investigation follows reports of “threats and abuse” directed at Oliver, according to referees’ body Professional Game Match Officials Limited.

The incident occurred in the 43rd minute when Lewis-Skelly fouled Doherty just outside the Wolves box.

The red card was upheld by VAR official Darren England, despite widespread debate over the decision. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his fury, and former Premier League striker Alan Shearer described the red card as “one of the worst decisions I’ve seen in a long time.”
