Speaking during the visit, the leader of the FMC delegation, Dr. Adekunle Adebayo, highlighted the significance of the upgrade.
“The transition of the Epe General Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre is a milestone that promises advanced healthcare services, improved infrastructure, and better access to medical specialists for the people of Epe.
We are committed to ensuring that this change positively impacts the community,” he stated.
Responding through the palace secretary, Oba Adewale expressed his appreciation for the team’s dedication to enhancing healthcare in Epe. He noted,
“The people of Epe have always valued quality medical care, and this upgrade marks a new dawn for our community’s health sector. We are optimistic that the FMC status will bring more specialized services and elevate the standard of care available to our people.”
The monarch also took the opportunity to announce his upcoming 88th birthday and 15th anniversary on the throne, scheduled for October 1, 2025.
“As we look forward to celebrating these milestones, we also celebrate the progress in our healthcare system. It is my prayer that this development brings good health and prosperity to Epe Kingdom,” he added.
In an interview with Epe Lawa, High Chief Musiliu Odedeogboro, the Balogun of Epe Kingdom, expressed his gratitude, saying,
“We appreciate the Federal Government’s initiative and the FMC team’s commitment to better healthcare.
This transition is a testament to the growing importance of Epe, and we look forward to a stronger partnership that will benefit our people.”
The transformation follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government in October 2024, facilitating the hospital’s upgrade to an FMC.
This move aims to provide advanced healthcare infrastructure and services to the Epe Division and its neighboring communities.
However, the transition has also sparked discussions among stakeholders. Dr. Saheed Babajide, the Lagos State Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), expressed his concerns.

“While the FMC status will bring modern medical facilities, there are worries that some state health benefits previously accessible at the general hospital may no longer be available.
We urge the authorities to ensure a seamless integration that retains essential services for Epe residents,” he remarked.
