FG Mandates Submission of Matriculation Lists to Combat Fake Degrees
The Federal Government has mandated all higher education institutions in Nigeria to submit their matriculation lists to the Federal Ministry of Education within three months of their matriculation ceremonies.
These lists must be sent through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) via a designated channel.
This directive is part of a broader initiative to address fake degree mills and certificate racketeering EKO HOT BLOG reports.
The move follows recommendations from an Inter-Ministerial Investigative Committee on Degree Certificate Milling, which was established in March after a Daily Nigerian investigative report exposed the activities of degree mills in the Benin Republic.

The report by Daily Nigerian reporter Umar Audu detailed how he acquired a degree in just six weeks and completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in Nigeria, revealing significant flaws in the system. This led the Nigerian government to ban the accreditation and evaluation of degrees from Benin Republic and Togo.
Minister of Education Tahir Mamman has emphasized that holders of fake degrees, whether from Nigerian or foreign institutions, will be removed from the system.
In a memo to JAMB dated July 15, 2024, the education ministry outlined the following recommendations for implementation:
