Dr. Ogunjimi noted that the complexity of current security threats, including insurgency and attacks on infrastructure, demands that the police be professionally and adequately equipped.
A key focus of this funding priority is the electoral calendar for 2026. With off-season governorship elections scheduled for June (Ekiti) and August (Osun), the Accountant-General assured the IGP that the force would receive “substantial support” to ensure seamless operations during the polls.
Dr. Ogunjimi urged the police leadership to maintain active engagement with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy to facilitate the release of any outstanding funds, warning that financial delays could severely undermine critical security efforts.
Responding to the pledge, IGP Olatunji Disu appealed for the immediate disbursement of pending funds to support ongoing activities nationwide.

He stressed that adequate financing is not just a logistical necessity but a constitutional requirement for the force to perform effectively.
This renewed focus on police funding follows recent data showing that military and paramilitary agencies received approximately ₦2.3 trillion in special intervention funding between late 2023 and September 2025, highlighting the administration’s continued emphasis on national stability.
