Tottenham Hotspur moved a step closer to Premier League survival after playing out a tense 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Monday night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
French forward Mathys Tel endured a mixed night as he scored Tottenham’s opening goal before later conceding the penalty that allowed Leeds to level the match.
The result leaves Spurs two points above the relegation zone with only a handful of matches remaining this season.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Tottenham entered the match under pressure following West Ham United’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, a game in which West Ham were denied a late equaliser after a VAR review.
That outcome confirmed the Premier League survival of Nottingham Forest and Leeds, while Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley have already been relegated.
Despite dominating possession for large spells, Tottenham struggled to break down Daniel Farke’s Leeds side during the first half.
Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky produced an impressive save in the 21st minute to deny Joe Rodon from close range.
At the other end, Joao Palhinha missed a clear opportunity after firing over the bar from inside the penalty area.
Tottenham eventually broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half after a corner from Pedro Porro fell kindly to Tel, who calmly curled the ball beyond Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
However, Spurs’ lead lasted only briefly.
With around 20 minutes remaining, Tel attempted an overhead clearance inside his own penalty area but accidentally struck Ethan Ampadu in the head.
Following a VAR review, referee Jarred Gillett awarded Leeds a penalty, which Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted successfully.
Tottenham fans later welcomed James Maddison back from a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury after he made his first appearance of the season as a late substitute.
Kinsky then produced another crucial save deep into stoppage time to deny Sean Longstaff and preserve a valuable point for Spurs.
The draw lifted Tottenham to 38 points, keeping them narrowly ahead of West Ham in the relegation battle.

Current Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi was appointed in March after replacing Igor Tudor following a disastrous run of 13 league matches without a win.
Since then, Tottenham have shown signs of improvement, although difficult fixtures against Chelsea and Everton still await before the end of the season.
