EKO HOT BLOG reports that the action was carried out by the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), following repeated warnings and non-compliance.
NESREA’s Director General, Prof. Innocent Barikor, said the affected facilities had been given timeframes and advisory notices to address breaches but failed to act. The crackdown followed inspections across several sectors, including quarrying, construction, and nightlife establishments.
Two popular nightclubs, Ibiza and De Hive, were sealed over noise pollution. NESREA found they consistently exceeded the limits set by the National Environmental (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations, 2009. Barikor emphasized the health risks posed by excessive noise in residential areas.
A quarrying company, Dai Jin Jia Investment Limited, was also sanctioned for dangerous blasting activities. Investigations showed that the company used charge loading far above the 3,000kg legal limit and exceeded the recommended depth for both blasting holes and pits. This, NESREA said, endangered lives and property in nearby communities.
Additionally, eleven construction companies were penalized for operating without environmental clearance, such as Environmental Impact Statements and Audit Reports. The sanctioned firms include Shaanxi Construction, Brmley Home, Clover Court, and others across districts like Wuye, Katampe, and Wuse II.

Barikor urged companies to proactively manage their environmental impact, warning that NESREA would intensify its monitoring and enforcement actions.
“We will not tolerate disregard for the environment. Our goal is to ensure a safe and healthy ecosystem for all Nigerians,” he said.
