A portion of the Gusau Central Market in Zamfara State was engulfed in flames on Sunday evening, resulting in the loss of shops and merchandise valued at millions of naira.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that renowned security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the fire broke out and rapidly spread across several stalls before traders and local residents could react.
Witnesses described the scene as catastrophic, with many scrambling to salvage their belongings amidst the intense flames. Affected traders have urgently called on the Zamfara State Fire Service for assistance, as parts of the market remain ablaze.
The cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage have not yet been determined.
In a related incident over the weekend, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) conducted an airstrike in the Tsafe local government area of Zamfara State, eliminating at least 23 bandits.
EKO HOT BLOG revealed that the bandits are believed to be relatives of the notorious kingpin, Ado Aleiro. According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the group had set out to rustle cattle from nearby communities when they encountered resistance from local security forces.
NAF tracked the bandits to a mountainous area, and as they attempted to flee, air assets were deployed to engage them. Eyewitnesses confirmed that several bandits were neutralized during the operation, although the exact number remains unconfirmed.
