- Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the latest fire
An early morning fire has engulfed the Fatima Simra Multi-Purpose Market in Dakata Quarters, Nasarawa Local Government Area, destroying several shops and goods.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, comes barely a week after a similar inferno at the Singer Market led to the loss of goods worth millions of naira.

Traders said the latest blaze affected shops largely occupied by small-scale businesses involved in oil production as well as the recycling of plastics and nylon.
Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said firefighters were still battling to contain the flames as of the time of filing this report.

“As I’m speaking with you, our personnel are at the scene trying to put out the fire, which is still raging. We are yet to ascertain the cause of the inferno and the extent of the damage,” he said.
The latest incident adds to concerns over recurring market fires in the state. In February 2026, two separate outbreaks were recorded at Singer Market, resulting in losses estimated at billions of naira.
During a sympathy visit to the affected traders, Abba Yusuf donated N100 million to cushion the impact of the disaster. The Federal Government and the Progressive Governors Forum also pledged N8 billion in support for victims.
Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the latest fire, while efforts continue to prevent further damage.
