In line with its zero-tolerance policy on indiscriminate refuse dumping, the Lagos State Government arraigned and remanded five individuals in Kirikiri prison for disposing of waste in a canal along Igando-Iba road Link Bridge.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the accused were arrested on Thursday, will have their case heard by a Magistrate Court in Oshodi on July 9.

The alleged offenders, identified as Quassim Jamiu, Ayo Jamiu, Alexander Innocent, Oparinde Taiwo, and Moses Adelowokan, were caught in the act by a joint team from KAI and security personnel.
They were apprehended while in the process of dumping waste from a lorry into the canal.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to penalizing those who engage in indiscriminate waste disposal.
He highlighted the possibility of a three-month imprisonment and a fine of N250,000 for offenders.
Wahab stressed that diligent prosecution of the arrested individuals will serve as a deterrent to others.
He also reminded residents of the availability of Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operators across all wards in Lagos State for waste evacuation services at a fee.
