French Tourist Found Dead in Benue State Hotel Room
  • The hotel manager reported the incident to the “A” Division Police Station in Benue State

A 67-year-old French tourist, Mr. Pietier Gilles, was found dead in a hotel room at Hotel Jovina in Gboko, the headquarters of Gboko Local Government Area in Benue State.

Eko Hot Blog reports that Gilles had checked into the hotel on June 6 and was discovered on Saturday after reportedly falling ill.

According to sources, the hotel manager, Mr. Emmanuel Laha, reported the incident to the “A” Division Police Station on Sunday at approximately 5:45 pm.

Laha informed the police that Gilles had fallen ill on June 7 but refused to be taken to a hospital for treatment. As his condition worsened, the hotel management brought in a medical practitioner to examine him, only to find that he had already passed away.

According to police sources, “On receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer led a patrol team to the hotel where photographs of the scene were taken.

” The body was evacuated to the General Hospital in Gboko for preservation and autopsy.”

Gilles was reportedly on a long-distance cycling tour and had entered Nigeria from Niger Republic on May 19, 2025.

Police sources have stated that an investigation will be conducted, and all relevant diplomatic channels are being engaged to handle the situation appropriately.

Meanwhile, attempts to reach the Benue State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, for confirmation have been unsuccessful.
