Mendler, 31, made the announcement on Monday, saying the company’s mission is to create a “data highway between earth and space” by designing shared ground infrastructure. She said Northwoodspace has already received $6.3 million in funding.
In a surprise reveal, Mendler also shared that she is a mother to a 4-year-old boy. “I’m so lucky – being a parent is the biggest gift and most defining experience there is,” she tweeted.
While this is the first time Mendler has opened up about motherhood, she told CNBC she “fell in love with space law” while working at the Federal Communications Commission’s Space Bureau in 2022.
“Space is getting easier along so many different dimensions, but still, the actual exercise of sending data to and from space is difficult. You have difficulty finding an access point for contacting your satellite,” she explained.
