Tension surrounded the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening exercise in Abuja on Sunday after Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara abruptly left the venue shortly after participating.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the screening, which had already been concluded for other state governors a day earlier, saw the absence of both Fubara and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru during the initial session.

Explaining the situation, the committee chairman and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda said some governors were unable to attend earlier due to official responsibilities tied to governance in their respective states.
He stressed that their absence was understood, noting that state chief executives often have competing demands that may affect scheduled appearances.

Fubara later arrived at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge, where the exercise was holding, at about 3pm. However, his participation was brief, as he exited the screening room after roughly 20 minutes, appearing visibly unsettled.
Attempts by journalists to engage him after the exercise were unsuccessful, as he declined to comment, simply responding, “No comment.”
The development has sparked fresh political discussion around his position within party structures, especially against the backdrop of his strained relationship with former governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
There are also growing speculations about possible internal political realignments ahead of future elections, though no official statements have confirmed any replacement moves.
