- Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, disclosed that he faced a job-threatening confrontation with President Bola Tinubu over Desmond Elliot’s alleged role in the 2025 Lagos Assembly crisis.
- President Tinubu reportedly confronted Gbajabiamila with intelligence linking Elliot to efforts to destabilize the Lagos legislature during the speakership tussle involving Mudashiru Obasa.
- The disclosure stems from the January 2025 “Obasa saga,” where Speaker Obasa was briefly impeached while abroad, leading to weeks of parallel leadership and APC internal friction.
A widely circulating video has surfaced where Femi Gbajabiamila details a high-stakes meeting at the President’s Abuja residence.
Eko Hot Blog reports that according to the Chief of Staff, the President questioned his loyalty after receiving reports that Desmond Elliot, the representative for Surulere Constituency I, was a key figure in the plot to oust Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Gbajabiamila recounted telling the President, “Desmond is not part of them,” only for Tinubu to double down, citing specific intelligence and ordering Gbajabiamila to tell the lawmaker to “retrace his steps.”
The pressure on Gbajabiamila reportedly intensified when the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) contacted him three days later, claiming his name was being mentioned as a secret supporter of the rebellion against Obasa.

Gbajabiamila revealed that he urged Elliot to issue a public statement to clear both their names, a request he says the lawmaker has yet to fulfill.
The 2025 crisis, which saw Mojisola Meranda briefly serve as the first female Speaker before Obasa was reinstated through APC intervention, remains a sensitive point in Lagos politics.
These revelations come at a vulnerable time for Desmond Elliot, who is currently facing significant resistance within his constituency as he seeks a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
While Gbajabiamila maintained in the video that he eventually convinced the President of his own innocence, the saga highlights the intricate and often volatile nature of the “Lagos political family” and the high price of perceived disloyalty within the ruling party’s inner circle.
