A devastating electricity surge in the Tudun Wadan Pantami area of Gombe metropolis has claimed the lives of five people, including a top government official, and left 13 others injured.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that among the deceased is Muhammad Yusuf Kulani, the Permanent Secretary at the Gombe State Ministry of Special Duties and Regional Integration. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, reportedly due to a high-voltage surge from a nearby electricity transformer.
According to eyewitnesses, Kulani was electrocuted while trying to open the gate of his residence. His daughter, who was with him at the time, survived the incident but is currently hospitalised.
All five victims have since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Gombe State Police Command confirmed the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said officers from the Low-cost Divisional Headquarters were deployed immediately to the scene to secure the area and assist the victims.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the unfortunate incident claimed the lives of five people, while 13 others sustained various degrees of injuries. The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals in the state,” he stated.
DSP Abdullahi assured the public that a full investigation will be launched to determine the exact cause of the power surge and to ensure accountability where necessary.
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. In a statement by his spokesperson, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor described the loss as a major blow to the state.

“Kulani was a disciplined and patriotic officer who served Gombe with distinction. His sudden demise and that of the others is a painful loss. We will work with relevant authorities to ensure thorough investigation and prevent future occurrences,” the governor said.
He extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the recovery of the injured.
