Ahead of the 2nd round fixture of the Carabao Cup, Manchester United has faced backlash over their poor start to the season after securing just 1 point out of two Premier League games.

Although Man United fans were optimistic after a spirited display against Arsenal in the opening league fixture despite the slender 1-nil loss, a draw against Fulham United cast further doubt over the team’s form.
Going into the league cup tie against 4th Division’s Grimsby Town, fans and pundits had high expectations over the possibility of United securing their first win of the season.

However, it only took Grimsby 22 minutes to cast a grim doubt over United’s chance of securing their first win of the season, as Charles Vernam’s venomous strike gave the home team the lead.
Grimsby compounded United’s woe on the night with another goal via a slip-up from Andre Onana, who missed an inbound cross from a corner as Tyrell Warren tapped the ball into an empty goal, condemning the visitors to a 2-nil defeat at halftime.

At the interval, Ruben Amorim introduced three substitutions to salvage the situation, as skipper Bruno Fernandes, Matthijs de Ligt, and Bryan Mbeumo came on to change the status quo.
Furthermore, Grimsby Town continued their confident display and stunned United with another goal, which was later ruled out for offside.
