Manchester City’s hopes of catching Premier League leaders Arsenal FC suffered a setback on Saturday after they were held to a 1–1 draw by West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side moved ahead in the first half through Bernardo Silva, but West Ham responded quickly as defender Konstantinos Mavropanos headed home an equaliser before the break, Eko Hot Blog reports.

The result came only hours after Arsenal secured a late 2–0 victory over Everton FC, extending their advantage at the top of the Premier League table. City now trail the Gunners by nine points, though they still have a game in hand.

Recent draws against teams battling relegation, West Ham and Nottingham Forest, have highlighted the inconsistencies that have affected City this season despite major investment in rebuilding the squad.
The Manchester club also faces a demanding run of fixtures. They must attempt to overturn a 3–0 deficit against Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 clash next week. That is followed by a EFL Cup Final meeting with Arsenal at Wembley and an FA Cup Quarter-Final tie against Liverpool FC.
Further league games against Chelsea FC and Arsenal await after the cup fixtures, leaving City with a challenging stretch that could determine whether they end the campaign without major silverware for a second consecutive season.

For West Ham, the point was significant. The draw lifted them out of the relegation zone for the first time in over three months, placing them just above Nottingham Forest, who still have a match in hand.
City began brightly and eventually broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. Silva surged down the left side of the penalty area and attempted a cross toward Erling Haaland. The ball looped awkwardly and caught West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen off guard before dropping into the far corner.
However, City’s advantage lasted only four minutes. A corner from Jarrod Bowen caused problems in the penalty area, and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma misjudged the flight of the ball, allowing Mavropanos to head in from close range.
City dominated possession after the interval but struggled to create clear chances. Haaland’s recent scoring drought continued, with the Norwegian striker finding the net only three times in his last dozen league appearances.
With Guardiola serving a touchline suspension and watching from the stands, his coaching staff introduced Rayan Cherki and Jeremy Doku in an effort to spark the attack.

Cherki almost made an immediate impact when he set up Haaland, whose low shot was saved by Hermansen. Later, Cherki struck the crossbar from a free-kick, while Haaland squandered another opportunity after being picked out by Doku.
Despite their late pressure, City failed to find a winner, leaving their pursuit of Arsenal looking increasingly difficult as the season enters its decisive stage.
