Residents of the Ahia and Onogholo areas in Edo State have been gripped by fear following a violent incident involving suspected cattle theft and an armed attack on herders along a rural path near Ahia Market in Ubiaja, Eko Hot Blog reports.
According to reliable sources, the attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, when unidentified gunmen reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and opened fire on a group of herders returning with their cattle to Okene in Kogi State.

A resident of the Oloshi community stated that one of the cows was shot during the ambush, causing the remaining cattle and herders to scatter in different directions.
It was alleged that the attackers returned later that night, slaughtered the wounded animal, and took away the meat under the cover of darkness.
The motive behind the attack is still unknown, and no individual or group has claimed responsibility at the time of this report.
Attempts by concerned residents to identify the attackers have so far yielded no results, with locals denying any knowledge of those involved.

Security officials have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to track down and apprehend the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the affected herders are calling for help in recovering their lost cattle and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
