Quoting Abraham Lincoln, Hon. Sketel described democracy as “government of the people, by the people, for the people,” and urged citizens to always remember that the right to vote and be heard is a privilege that must never be taken for granted.
“Democracy has reshaped societies, replacing monarchy, empire, and conquest with the principles of self-determination, popular rule, and peaceful coexistence,” he stated.
He further stressed the importance of civic responsibility and the dangers of apathy or surrendering freedom, saying, “The best cure for the challenges of democracy is more democracy.
To surrender your freedom is to surrender your life. For in freedom lies the right to live with dignity and pursue a better future.”
Hon. Sketel encouraged the people of Epe Constituency II and Nigerians at large to celebrate Democracy Day with a deep sense of hope and unity.
“Let us reflect on how far we have come, and how much more we can achieve together. Let us continue to live in unity and love,” he said.
