Eko Hot Blog reports that speaking during a thanksgiving service held in Ogbomoso following his wife’s rescue, Professor Wole Alamu recounted how constant communication with the armed bandits severely disrupted his health, driving up his blood pressure and leaving him physically destabilized.

Mrs. Alamu, the principal of Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, was abducted alongside her students and staff on May 15, 2026, before being rescued in a joint military and security operation in July.
Professor Alamu disclosed that after negotiating directly with the kidnappers for three weeks, he made the difficult decision to block their phone numbers to preserve his life.
Following the communication blackout, the frustrated kidnappers confronted Mrs. Alamu in the forest, threatening to execute her.
They also left a cutlass beside her in an apparent psychological attempt to force her into self-harm.
However, the principal boldly confronted her captors, refusing to give in to fear or take her own life.
Despite the agonizing 50-plus days of captivity, Professor Alamu expressed gratitude for the rapid response of security personnel, recalling that the General Officer Commanding of the 2nd Mechanised Division and the Oyo State Commissioner of Police were on the scene within 45 minutes of the report, backed by helicopter search units.
He also acknowledged the immense outpouring of support from Christian and Muslim communities locally and internationally, including outreach from groups in California and Los Angeles, noting that the ordeal ultimately united people of all faiths in prayer until his wife’s safe return.
