The year 2026 began on a joyful and symbolic note in Ibeju-Lekki as the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, paid an early morning visit to Akodo General Hospital to celebrate the first baby born in the new year.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the First Lady was warmly received by the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Chairman, Conference 57, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, alongside the wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluremi Hamzat.

In a remarkable show of support and encouragement, the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, under the leadership of Hon. Olowa, donated the sum of one million naira to the newborn, describing the gesture as a commitment to hope, life, and the future of the community.
The First Lady also presented gift items to the baby and the mother, adding warmth to the celebratory visit.
Speaking at the hospital, Dr. (Mrs.) Sanwo-Olu described the birth as a powerful sign of renewal for Lagos State.
She noted that welcoming the first baby of the year is a reminder of the responsibility of government to protect and nurture life from its earliest stage.
“The birth of this child represents hope, new beginnings, and the promise of a brighter future for Lagos State,” she said.
“Our administration remains committed to strengthening maternal and child healthcare, ensuring that every mother and child has access to quality and affordable medical services.”
Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa reaffirmed the local government’s dedication to healthcare delivery and family welfare, stressing that the donation reflects the council’s people-oriented approach. He noted that investing in children is an investment in the future of Ibeju-Lekki and Lagos State at large.
“This support is our way of celebrating life and reassuring our people that their government truly cares,” he said. “We will continue to support initiatives that promote safe childbirth and healthy living.”
The First Lady also encouraged expectant mothers across the state to make use of government-owned health facilities, emphasizing that such centers are equipped to provide professional and safe maternal care.
She called for sustained collaboration among state institutions, local governments, and community stakeholders to further reduce maternal and infant mortality.
Representatives of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), including Mrs. Adetoun Balogun and Alhaja Oyedele, were present at the event, alongside other dignitaries and hospital officials.
