The church auditorium was filled with parishioners adorned in vibrant outfits, as various societies, youth groups and pious organizations took part in the special liturgy.
Delivering the homily, Father Omoroke highlighted the spiritual and social relevance of Christ’s kingship in a world grappling with moral decline and uncertainty.
“Christ the King reminds us that Jesus is the ruler of our hearts and the guide of our actions,” he said. “When we allow Christ to reign in our homes, our families experience peace. When He reigns in our hearts, we become ambassadors of love, truth and service.”
He encouraged parishioners to embrace the feast as an opportunity for spiritual renewal and a recommitment to Christian virtues ahead of the Advent season.
“This feast invites us to surrender our worries, our fears and our daily struggles to the Lord who reigns eternally,” he added.
After the Mass, the church community embarked on a vibrant and well-coordinated procession around the Ibonwon community.
The procession featured the choir, altar servers, children, youth groups, Catholic Women Organisation, Catholic Men Organisation and different societies, all singing hymns and praying as they marched through the streets.
The atmosphere within the community was lively as residents observed and joined in the celebration, with many expressing admiration for the discipline and unity displayed by parishioners.
Upon returning to the church premises, a joyful thanksgiving session was held. Parish groups presented special songs, dance offerings and tokens of appreciation to God for grace, protection and blessings received throughout the liturgical year.
In his closing remarks, Father Omoroke thanked parishioners for their active participation and encouraged them to carry the message of Christ’s kingship into their daily lives.
“We must be bearers of light everywhere we go. As we enter the Advent season, let us prepare our hearts with faith, hope and love,” he said.
The Feast of Christ the King, instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI, is celebrated annually on the last Sunday of the liturgical year and ushers the faithful into the Advent season—the period of preparation for Christmas.
