EKO HOT BLOG reports that the commission announced that the exercise, which was previously scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, will now conclude on Friday, July 24, 2026.
The announcement was made on Friday in Abuja by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
Haruna said the decision followed a review of the exercise and consultations with INEC state offices, political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
According to him, the extension is intended to provide another opportunity for eligible Nigerians who are yet to register. He noted that the nationwide CVR exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025, forms part of the commission’s preparations for future electoral activities.
He added that the extension reflects INEC’s commitment to ensuring every eligible Nigerian has a fair and reasonable opportunity to be included in the National Register of Voters.
The commission also announced the introduction of a self-service online voter registration platform for eligible first-time voters.
According to INEC, the new service will become available from Wednesday, July 8, 2026, through its dedicated CVR portal, where users will have access to a step-by-step registration guide.
The commission explained that the self-service option will enable eligible citizens to initiate and complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, using their personal devices without the need to visit an INEC office physically.
INEC stated that the system is equipped with identity verification, biometric validation and backend integrity checks designed to safeguard the credibility and accuracy of the National Register of Voters.
The electoral body urged all eligible Nigerians who have yet to register to take advantage of the extended registration period and the new technology-driven platform.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a credible, inclusive and accessible voter registration process while leveraging technology to improve citizens’ participation and experience in Nigeria’s electoral process.
