The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that political parties will conduct primaries for four newly restored State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi States between August 21 and 25, 2026.

The affected constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, as well as Yagba West II in Kogi State.
National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the commission, the primaries for the restored constituencies will be conducted alongside party primaries for upcoming bye-elections in several other constituencies.
These include the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.
INEC said all other timelines and activities contained in its revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election would also apply to the restored constituencies.
The commission urged political parties interested in contesting the affected seats to submit notices of their primaries ahead of the scheduled dates.
The restoration of the constituencies follows the court judgment that directed INEC to reinstate them in the electoral framework.
The move is expected to pave the way for fresh political contests in the affected areas ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC reiterated that political parties must comply with the commission’s guidelines and timelines throughout the process.
