The Jigawa State Government has launched a new initiative to support pregnant women across the state, distributing maternity kits to improve maternal and infant health outcomes.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the initiative, rolled out on Monday in Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area, was spearheaded by the state’s First Lady, Hadiza Namadi, following approval from Governor Umar Namadi.
The kits are designed to provide essential healthcare supplies to protect mothers from infections during childbirth and postpartum care, while also promoting safe pregnancy practices.

Speaking during the event, Mrs. Namadi emphasised the importance of maternal wellbeing. “Every mother matters, and these kits will go a long way in safeguarding the health of our women and children,” she said.
She also commended the local government chairman, Tasiu Adamu, for constructing a Basic Health Clinic in the area, named after the governor, noting that the state remains committed to reducing maternal mortality in all 27 local government areas.

Representing the Emir of Gumel, Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani, the District Head of Jeke, Muhammad Sani Ibrahim, urged pregnant women to make proper use of the kits.
He highlighted the critical role of antenatal care in ensuring safe deliveries and reducing maternal and infant deaths.
Chairman Adamu noted that about 200 pregnant women from 11 wards would benefit from the kits. He also spoke on the government’s broader investment in healthcare, including spending over ₦100 million on initiatives last year and sponsoring students for healthcare studies.
Additionally, he inaugurated a new Tsangaya School, naming it Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi in honour of the First Lady.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the kits, noting the support they provide in easing the financial burden of prenatal care. Aishatu Aliyu, 25, said, “This kit will help me a lot, especially with the current economic conditions.”

Similarly, Rahama Musa, 30, a mother of two, described it as “a blessing that will keep me and my baby healthy.”
The program reflects Jigawa State’s ongoing commitment to maternal and child health, combining government support with community engagement to ensure lasting positive outcomes for families across the state.
