Former President Goodluck Jonathan has rejected claims that he was offered ₦500 billion to contest the presidency against the National Democratic Congress candidate, Peter Obi, to divide votes in the South South.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Ikechukwu Eze, described the allegation as entirely false, saying it was fabricated to draw the former president into unnecessary political controversy.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Eze said the story, which circulated through an obscure online platform, had no factual basis and should be ignored by the public.
He noted that the publication did not provide any evidence to support its claims, including where the alleged conversation took place, when it occurred, or the identity of anyone said to have made the offer.

According to him, the report failed to meet basic journalistic standards and was designed to misinform Nigerians by attributing statements to Jonathan that he never made.
Eze said the former president had no connection with the claims contained in the publication and warned against the growing spread of fake news as political activities begin to gather pace.
He urged members of the public to verify information from credible sources before accepting or circulating sensational political stories.
The media aide added that the report should be dismissed completely, describing it as another attempt to create unnecessary political tension through false and misleading information.
